Our Logo
Our logo bears an image of a sower,
with a Latin inscription from 1 Corinthians 3:7,
Dat Deus Incrementum,
roughly translated,
God Gives the Growth.
Paul is urging against party spirit
in speaking of the establishment of the Church in Corinth:
I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth.
So then neither the one who plants, nor the one who waters is anything,
but God who gives the growth.
We believe this is a fitting – and biblical – motto
in considering the establishment of a church
according to a confessionally Reformed
pattern in Washington, DC.
Any growth will be given by God.
Our logo is drawn from the reverse of a medal minted in Geneva in 1555, to commemorate John Calvin’s leadership of the church in that town.
The selection of this motto illustrates the God-glorifying
impulse of the Protestant Reformation.
God, not Calvin, had prospered the church.
Dat Deus Incrementum!
