Genesis 50
Genesis was written by Moses as an historical introduction to God’s covenant dealings with Israel at Sinai. It is comprised of ten “books” of generations, which trace the dealings of God with the two seeds of humanity, the Seed of the Serpent and the Seed of the Woman (Gen. 3:15). These two lines are often illustrated by the contrasted pairing of brothers:
Cain and Abel/Seth (Books I-II)
Japheth, Ham, and Shem (Books III-IV)
Ishmael and Isaac (Books VII-VIII)
Esau and Jacob (Books IX-X)
